A common example is lupus. ANA test results are 1:2560 anti-centromere (not sure what that means). An elevated ANA (ant-nuclear antibody) titer is often elevated in patients with a number of autoimmune "connective tissue diseases" (disorders where the body's own immune system attacks the body). SSA Ab is at the high end of normal range, RNP Ab just over normal range and Centromere Ab os double the normal range. Some people present with things like seizures, aseptic meningitis, migraines, psychosis, cranial neuropathies like Bell's palsy, and peripheral neuropathies, etc.
It seems really high @ 1:2560 Nucleolar Pattern (6 months ago positive as well @ 1:320 - Dr ignored at the time because of Graves & Celiac). The titre was 1:2560. ANA 1:2560 (Speckled) and many symptoms....diagnosis? So far, doctors haven’t been able to figure out what’s wrong, despite a host of weird symptoms and irregular tests. I know ANAs can be elevated by autoimmune diseases, cancer, and viral/bacterial infections, among other things. I've been diagnoses with hashimotos thyroiditis
Anti-Nuclear Antibody (ANA) The ANA (anti-nuclear antibody) test is a blood test that looks for antibodies that attack proteins found in the nucleus of cells.The nucleus is essentially the “command centre” or “brain” of any cell in the body.
Many different types of proteins are found in the nucleus that perform many different functions. It isn't unusual for some people with lupus to present with mainly neuro symptoms. Last week my ANA test came back positive.
However, a positive ANA has fairly poor "specificity" as a test. My question is: How likely is such a high ANA to be associated with an autoimmune disease?
